Statistical Analysis of the Admission and Death Rate


Abstract
Statistical analysis was made on the admissions and deaths observed in the Ped. Dept. of Chonnam University Hospital, during the years of Jan. 1971 to Dec. 1975. The results obtained were as follows:
1. Total 5924 patients includes 4054 male and 1870 female, the male to female ratio being 2.2:1.
2. Pediatric patients were consisted of 18.7% of all admission of CUH.
3. Age distribution showed that the neonate and infant group under 1 year had the highest rate of the admission (60. 1 %) and the death (44.3 %).
4. Seasonal distribution showed prevalence in summer.
5. Infectious and Parasitic disease were 1932 cases (32.6%) and Respiratory tract disease, 1226 cases (21.3%) and those two group diseases occupied more than half of total admissions.
6. Major 10 leading causes of hospitalization, in order of frequency, were Pneumonia, J. B. Encephalitis, Infectious Diarrhea, Gastroenterocolitis, Premature, Pyogenic Meningitis, U. R. I. , T. B. Meningitis, Accident and Poisoning and Nephritis.
7. The Overall Mortality rate was 10.0 %.
8. Major 10 leading causes of death, in order of frequency, were Pneumonia, J. B. Encephalitis, Premature, Neonatal Tetanus, Sepsis, Pyogenic Meningitis, Accident & Poisoning, Aseptic Meningitis, Diphtheria and Tuberculosis.
9. Mortality rates of individual diseases showed that Neonatal Tetanus was 31.4%, Sepsis 28.3%, Premature 18.0%, and J. B. Encephalitis 13.8%.
